- They invite her to squat with them

- Keeping watch over the underdocks and steer away any guards
- She’s curious about what the others are doing down there
- Her friends convince her it’s easy money and no one will get hurt
- She needs cash to buy passage on an airship, for her secret plans to leave Freehold
- They’ll spread the word to their friends, something is going down on the docks
- She reluctantly agrees
- She’s just looking out for her friends
- This one job will make her enough to get out of town
- She drinks some absinte and passes out
- First time getting drunk
- She comes to, hearing voices quietly discussing what the real job under the docks will be
- She stumbles past them to vomit, and sees a face
- She awakens again before dawn
- A dream of her mother being caught in the blast as the docks fall
- Realizes what she heard the night before
- The locket from her mother
- She’s surrounded by the remains of the party
- She realizes she can’t go through with it now that she knows what will happen
- She sneaks out of the house
- She goes down to the portmasters office
- The portmaster refuses to see her – because of past problems as a pickpocket
- A flunky takes her report and sends her away
- He throws away her report, thinking it’s a prank
- Chaya sees him toss the report
- She hurries back to the squat
- Planning to run away
- She’s packing her things when everyone is woken up by the grand clockwork
- Everyone complains loudly
- She quickly hides her bags under the bed
- She pretends she just woke up too
- Looks for the face from the night before, but doesn’t see him
- Everyone heads down tho the docks
- Chaya watches while the rest of the gang scatters to the underdocks
- Chaya sees the chrome gathering
- If she doesn’t do something, all these people will die
- She sneaks into the underdocks
- Sees the charges being set by people with their faces covered by ether masks and goggles
- She gets caught
- She lies and says the garda are coming
- The garda show up
- The garda and the masks fight
- Chaya is caught in the crossfire and hides
- She sees the countdown as gathering chrome
- She is forced to “burn” the chrome to keep the explosives from going off
- Everyone sees her burn chrome, and the resulting changes
- She’s hit on the head from behind and everything goes black
- She wakes up in jail
- With a concussion
- The full council will preside over the trials of all the offenders
- Including her father
- Her trial will be first because of the serious and secret nature of her crimes
- being a tetrachrome is punishable by death
